Realizing that there is no such thing as a guaranteed winner, and that it is foolish to wager more than one can afford to lose, etc. etc.

What is the safest bet to make, if someone wanted to bet big only ONCE and walk away, and in what sport? Judging from all the favorites in football winning right now, I would guess it would be the money line on a -900 favorite or so (like if Indy were playing Houston, if any books even offer such a wager)...

From my limited experience betting all the sports in the past month or so NBA/NCAA hoops and Hockey games seem to be so erratic, that on any given night, a dog can win (maybe it has something to do with all the fouls/power plays allowing for more scoring opportunities). For those of you with more long term exposure, does this sound right? Or are things just really out of the norm in the NFL right now?

What bet would you make if you were forced to make one really big bet?

Choose the sport you are best at and make a play you have confidence in. I mean a play that you handicapped heavily and feel you have the right side. Personally I would do it with baseball.

The safest bet out there is to make sure that the guy is wearing a condom. Or you could be for a world of problems.

You have GOT to be kidding, right?

That picture is about 4 or 5 years old, taken by my ex, and he actually took many, many pictures of me that day and other days, as he was a semi-avid photographer (was a hobby of his, didn't do it professionally). Where is this Dani's hard-drive? Is there a link? If he gave any of my pics to a "porn site", there are going to be major, major problems as I never signed any release or never gave him permission to use or sell any pictures of me (he did some nudes of me as well and I have all the pictures, but I guess maybe he still has the negatives, but he promised never to do anything with those pics).............:ughhh:

However, I assume that you are just pulling my leg here since I'm new to the forum.:nono5:

That's MEAN!!!!

For me it would have to be on the favourite ML.

I hit two ML's hard (well hard for me) this year. Giants @ the 49'ers a month or so ago and last week the Pats at home to the Jets. Thankfully i came out unscathed.

I did some research on the rx.com stats area, and decided to do my first big bet today on a money line favorite. I put about 39 units on Gonzaga to win tonight against Washington St.

I got -800 odds... but I feel good about it. If I win, I'll be content with a 5 unit payoff. If I lose, it's not an amount I am uncomfortable losing. Despite my title, I'm not chasing a bet or anything.

Wish me luck! :money:

To me wagering in a safe or conservative manner (if there is such a thing) would require a strategy of capitol (bankroll) preservation coupled with a low ROI (return on investment) expectation. Something along the lines of sports investing instead of sports wagering.

The only way I can think of to preserve capitol (bankroll) in sports wagering would be through middling. I don't know much about middling but I would guess betting the early lines and hoping they go your way. If the line goes the wrong way, one could play both sides with little risk and a slight negative ROI.

All that sounds like a lot of work and not much fun. Hence, I wouldn't recommend that type of strategy, unless you have an abundance of time and patience.

Let me tell you one basic advice, that one day someone gave me:

"The safest bet is the one you never place"

Playing Moneylines is really dangerous, specially on big favorites, your risking too much for a small pot, you could be winning small money, but the day you lose just one, that day you will lose a lot of money.

But, if you really want to play, then go with Wil advice, try to be sharp in one thing and use it to make some money.

Baseball is a rough season for a bookie and great for players.
The way the favorites are covering the spreads right now in NFL could be one of the safest bets ever....LOL!!

I like to play props, they're fun and are really weak lines, but you have to take some time to do research and handicap your plays. These are volatile lines, and there are many factors that affect them. Are small plays, but I know people that has won a lot of money playing just props....and of course, I would not recommend them if I'm not winning.

If you're willing to bet -800 how about -880 for the next thing to a sure bet. Pinnacle has Weather bets, whether there will be at least 1" of snow at a particular place. One of the bets is -880 for YES at Mount Washington, NH. Here's a map of snow cover in the US. Look at the state of NH. See that bright pink spot? That's Mount Washington.

http://www.intellicast.com/IcastPag...CurrentWeather&product=SnowCover&prodnav=none

It has over 10" of snow. It's at the top of a mountain so don't worry about all that snow melting between now and Christmas. Oh yeah, I forgot to add that a snow storm is headed for the area.

Good luck.

:lolBIG: I saw that before but just found that the maximum bet is 142 and change which will get you 16. Still an easy $16 tho. I may do it

Actually the maximum bet is $117.50 but that is the maximum you can win. So if you bet $900+ you can win $117.50.

Yesterday I heard on the radio regarding the snowstorm in Chicago that may have caused that plane to go off the runway. I put in YES for Chicago to have 1" of snow on Christmas Day at +129. I look now to see that it's been bet down to -905.

Looks like Pinnacle took the weather bets off their site. I missed the news that there was a lot of snow in Boston, otherwise I would have bet on that place having 1" of snow on Christmas Day.

I had the maximum on Cleveland, Chicago, Buffalo and Newark (they have 6" of snow on the ground). I also had quite a bit on Mt. Washington.

There's a little more than 2 weeks left until Christmas. I suppose there can be some warm days ahead that will melt all that snow. On the other hand, there could be some more storms that add to it.

I'll report back here what the results are. I hope I have about $500 extra in my Pinnacle account the day after Christmas.
